Just after reading articles about the BWE's in 2004 and some more information on different sites, I decided to start the 2005 BWE's with an Ele/Me. Elementalist, because I like to be a caster/ranged attacker and Mesmer because.... well, I'm not sure, but all those spells looked great! You're not doing real hard damage (IMO) like warriors/nukers but you block, interrupt, drain energy and/or health, steal skills (my favorite!) and punish players for using skills/actions.
Getting a random group in PvE is easy for wa/ele/mo, hard for ra/ne and almost impossible for Mesmers. Be ready for comments like :"You can't kill fast enough" (answer: True, but I kill and that's the whole point). It has one great benefit though: Groups that accept you (or even invite you ) know the true value of Mesmer-power. My favorites are the Shutdown-Mesmer and Interrupt-Mesmer. The first relies on hexes/spells like Energy Surge/Tap and Backfire to prevent caster from ... casting (duh). The second type interrupts them, by using spells like Power Leak/Spike while increasing the victims casting time with Migraine/Arcane Conundrum. Don't forget to bring some Enchant-stealers (to cast on your team) and some Hex-breakers (to relieve the monks on your team). Mesmer are not for players that like to bash and kill others. We Mesmer like to play with our prey for awhile |

ya its sad how many noobs have to rely on some script build pvp and actually think they are leet doing it. A 55 monk who got lucky in random arena with nobody to drain enchants or do dot degen: "Omgoz yall suckorz u cant killz me!!1". A fragility mesmer with no skills except looking online at a premade build too easy to do: "zOmgzors whats the matter warrior did i kill u to fast!!!1". A mesmer is good but they wont get far on a team that wants it dead. Even the best cannot keep two attacks off them while still contributing significantly to its team's offense.

Every mission is a lot easier with a mesmer. Just shutdown every magic user you see. Especially bosses. Blackout and power block makes all bosses completely useless. Monk boss? Very easy, no healing and he barely attacks for any damage.
I wouldn't recommend trying to do too much damage in PvE. That's what your teammates are for. There's just a bit too many enemies for that I would say. Shutdown seems far more effective. Last edited by Jhyphi; Sep 02, 2005 at 07:20 PM // 19:20.. |
